Founded in April of 1982, The Engraver is a full service engraving business based in Chester County, Pennsylvania, which specializes in nameplates for the equestrian community.
We have a complete line of personalized items suitable for everyone, from the individual, to horse show trophies and awards. Many of our stock nameplates can be seen under the Nameplates page of this website. The instructions for the proper way to attach nameplates to equestrian equipment (including a video how-to), as well as for directions on how to care for your nameplates, can be found on the Information page of this website.
You can find our nameplates and leather goods at many of the finer tack shops throughout the United States and Canada, buy directly from us at several horse shows during the year, or contact us directly.
All items we sell are made in the U.S.A.
The Engraver's Green Hill Collection was officially launched in 2010. Named for the train station that once stood behind our house, it is our exclusive line of fine leather and canvas goods. Everything from handbags, belts and bracelets, through dog collars, leashes, horse halters, and leads. Our standard halter sizing chart is on our Information page.
The Green Hill Collection began as we saw, over the years, the slow decline in the quality of the general leather goods that came through our shop, and the ever-increasing prices we saw in the higher end products. We still believe that superior quality merchandise can be made available to our customers at a reasonable price.
Please see our Gallery page for photos of many of our Green Hill Collection products. Our standard leather and Cordura colors are shown on our Information page.
We take our reputation as the best in the business very seriously. All customers are important to us, from the individual who wants one saddle plate, to the stable owner looking for custom designed plates, to competitions looking for awards. We will not compromise on quality. Our nameplates are made from metals (solid brass, or nickel) of the grade and gauge that have long been proven to withstand the rigors of daily equestrian use. We include the proper hardware for attaching nameplates so they remain safe for you, your horse, or your pet. All our leather products are hand made, exclusively for us, by some of the best leather craftsmen in Pennsylvania, using the finest quality leathers and canvases available today.
We take pride in our work, and we hope you take pride in owning one of our products.
We started engraving exclusively for the horse industry in 1982. The first couple years we traveled to horse shows throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Vermont, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Indiana, Florida, and Ontario, Canada. 1982 was our first year at Dressage at Devon, and 1983 was our first year at the Devon Horse Show. We are now the longest running vendor either show has ever had.
By 1985, we had started wholesaling to saddlery shops throughout the mid-Atlantic region. By 1990, our distributors had spread across the country and into Canada. Our nameplates have sold to top events, top riders and Olympians from around the world, to movie and television stars, to recording artists, to top politicians, and even to England's Royal Family. Some of our nameplates have been used in major motion pictures. However, our bread and butter has always been sales to the everyday equestrian.
